Speaking of religion, this post is going to be a critical discussion.
I just finished my EDUC 116 class when my friend dragged me into a discussion with our lecturer about the mechanism of religion in the society. She (my friend) did not plan to open this discussion, because she was just explaining to our lecturer about how toilsome is for her to compress one-night-long reading into a succinct paragraph.
Yet the lecturer just have the knack to interest us into the discussion. For 5 years of teaching Malaysian students, he was aware of our religion background and the rules that have been outlined between boys and girls. Like boys cannot touch girls, and boys have priority over girls especially about leadership, or boys' opinion take greater position than girls.
I know this sound sexist, but that's how he laid it out. And I can't doubt that. It's happening all the time.
In the next rendezvous we are conferring about the belief; mainly religion; and how it operates in the society and controls the way we think, and how the politicians manipulate the mass's faith towards their agenda.
Somehow I tend to disagree. This process is just another way of secularizing religion, take it apart from our lives and slice and dice it. It's like we are trained to speculate everything, including our own religion. I'm afraid that, along the process I'll tend to doubt this belief I've been holding dear.
But looking from another side, this may be a very good kick-start towards appreciating the cluster of faith that we have. Can you imagine what's going to happen if we weren't born as Muslim?
Let's pretend that we were born agnostic and clueless of what's world is all about. At least in our religion we don't have to argue of WHY we are here, that we are sent for some purpose. Or WHAT is the great control that operating the nature.
It's very weird for some people to think that, everything that happens is just random.
Suddenly the last discussion seems to be very positive, even I discussed it with and ex-believer.
But, the question remains, are we ready to discuss this personal thing openly?
