Here is to more volunteering

Volunteering is one of the many sought-after activities most fresh graduates take part in, for an obvious reason- to get an experience vouching for a better job.

Today I made way to a primary school that offered me a teaching position.

Like many of us I'm doing this not out of sincerity. I'm a hardcore opportunist, being far from the best intentions of philantrophy. Its still a long way before i set aside personal interests for the good of many.

So I observed this English lesson in this lowest-ability class. For Heavens sake the students critically need interventions. It's surreal enough if they could comprehend simple sentences with their little understanding of how English works.

I definitely felt bad for them, but something tells me the fingers should point to themselves. When I was their age I had this strong tenacity to ace languages and all other subjects. I trust all successful people had that flaming fire to win, regardless of the society attached to them. I was not a part of the elite groups, far from wealth and riches. But those who work hard planting the seeds will enjoy the harvest.

Perhaps I was wrong. Perhaps their parents were to blame.

I don't know their life stories so I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Yet many students couldn't have a care about their acute academic performance. Despite plenty of cram schoolings they continue to flop. Inside, the fire is low and extinguishing.

Perhaps because they lack of dreams to success.

Perhaps because they were so spoilt there is no need to work hard. If only parents understand the concept of demand and supply, children can be reshaped and reinvented.

I spare no sympathy for these children, but they need interventions regardless. The future is at stake here.
