a tale of woe

I believe that everyone  is aware of Nur Amalina Che Bakri of her top-notch achievement, following her infamous UK adventure.

And it is horrendous of how the media spun her story like she is a money-sucking, ungrateful bitch who spend her time drinking or having sex with countless guys.

Looking at the social construction in Malaysia who always believe the worst in people, oversea students are instantly labeled as having that surrounding viral 'dark' aura as hers.

Alright, Amalina had revealed her side of the story. She said she didn't change except that she's more liberal fashion-wise but that was not even a bit convincing considering her dressing and social circle.

Her story should be a lesson to students who are going overseas-to never let your guard down-, not a scam to hinder the good intentions. Apparently media has the best touch to light up the flame, and it glitches every department of  overseas students.

I'm not siding on Amalina but I speak of myself, who studies overseas that it isn't fair to badmouth her if one hasn't been in her shoes. She's living somewhere distant from families, with very tough subjects and reputation to live up to; it is forgivable if she wants to have some nights of harmless fun, western style. I mean, she won't get that same excitement and thrill once she's back, and shunned and disgraced from the society.

And it is unfair to homogenize all overseas students to walk on the same lane. We don't. Some are like doing missionary work while studying and some are boozing and partying. It depends on which circle you are with.

I believe that many local university students are living the same, even worse lifestyle, yet left unjustified.

Some people are just too selfish to not consider her side of story. Reading some facebook comments, it feels like some people are throwing fits like a child with profanities and insults to her. I mean, who are we to put her in that position?

I hope she doesn't crack under pressure. And I also hope that she can change for the better.
